A Database of Early Architects Practicing in South Africa
(towards a Dictionary of Architects Working in South Africa)
In order to promote access to the invaluable information held in this database, SAHRA has placed it on the Web. The version on the Web is that inherited from SAHRA’s predecessor, the National Monuments Council in April 2000.
This body of work was originally compiled from 1984 as a draft towards a Dictionary of Architects in South Africa and was overseen by the Human Sciences Research Council. The draft was eventually purchased by the National Monuments Council in the 1990s.
This important body of work requires refinement and updating, and will be integrated into the National Heritage Resources Information System as it is established. As the database is work in progress, there are many omissions and errors. Updating and improvement is underway, and it is requested that should you find any errors or omissions, that these be forwarded to the Manager of the National Inventory at SAHRA, David Hart with your contact details.
Additional information submitted to SAHRA should be referenced for verification purposes. Any additional comments about the database and suggested improvements would be most welcome.
SAHRA does not take any responsibility for the quality of data held in this database and will not be liable for any actions taken or not taken based on information held in or omitted from this database.
