VIRTUAL SEMINAR

Join The South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) for our annual Heritage Week Webinar Series focusing on the conservation of the national estate and building bridges with the heritage community. Between 19 – 22 September SAHRA will be hosting a series of webinars that focus on our areas of management in heritage conservation management. SAHRA as the national regulatory body for heritage resources management is interested in the further integration of its national management framework and is actively seeking partners that can assist us with realising our strategic objectives and creating a sustainable heritage sector in South Africa.

HERITAGE WEEK OPENING SESSION

The Heritage week opening session will commence on Monday morning the 19th of September. The main objective of this session is to providing some context and background, as well as to provide further details on proceedings for the week. Session speakers are presented below.

Archeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites

Join SAHRA’s Archeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites Unit as they discuss their exciting Outreach Activities and Conservation projects. This session will also dig deep into critical areas of conservation management in APM.

Join the MUCH unit for an update on some of the work the unit has been involved in over the past year and for some exciting presentations by guest speakers, Jaco Boshoff, Jonathan Sharfman, and Vanessa Maitland, who are actively involved in the South African Maritime Archaeology field.

Join SAHRA’s Heritage Objects Unit as they explore the current status in the management and conservation of movable heritage objects: Export, Specifically Declared Objects/Collections, and much more. We look forward to engaging all stakeholders.

National Inventory

Join SAHRA’s National Inventory Unit as they look at heritage inventories for data driven decision making and their exciting guest speakers Nicholas Wiltshire, Jenna Lavin as they explore SAHRIS after 10 years and digital innovation.

Built Environment

The BE unit of SAHRA will be discussing crucial areas of interest affecting the heritage landscape such as contentious memorial statues in South Africa and exciting new areas in conservation of the built environment such as the sustainable heritage tool concept. Our guest speaker Dr. Pallav Kumar will give a talk on sustainable material use.

Burial Grounds and Graves

The Dead speak the Loudest. Join SAHRA’s Burial Grounds and Graves Unit as they talk all things graves: from the impacts of forced removals, the BGG Permitting Policy, the Memorialisation of our Liberation Struggle Icons and many more.

Heritage Protection

Join SAHRA’s Heritage Protection Unit for their discussion around critical areas in identifying intangable heritage. This session will also provide feedback from the “Thematic Framework Workshop“. We look forward to seeing you there.

SAHRA as the national regulatory body for heritage resources management is interested in the further integration of its national management framework.
