SAHRA’s Maritime and Underwater Cultural Heritage unit is responsible for the identification, protection, and promotion of all heritage resources in our vast oceans, rivers, and lakes. This includes nearly 3,000 historical shipwrecks and their associated cargo, making South Africa’s waters home to some of the most fascinating and diverse underwater archaeology in the world.
