Wreck of the SS Maori
SAHRA’s Maritime and Underwater Cultural Heritage unit is responsible for the identification, protection, and promotion of all heritage resources in our vast oceans, rivers, and lakes. This includes nearly 3,000 historical shipwrecks and their associated cargo, making South Africa’s waters home to some of the most fascinating and diverse underwater archaeology in the world. Watch the short video documentary below to see the MUCH unit at work monitoring the wreck of SS Maori (1909) off Hout Bay in Cape Town, and to hear a little bit more about exciting upcoming projects.
